He was commenting on the issue of creating a mechanism to investigate ceasefire violations on the contact line of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops.
Mammadyarov noted that the Azerbaijani population was forcibly expelled from their centuries-old native lands only for belonging to the Azerbaijani nation.
Armenia is deliberately trying to bring to the agenda the issue of the necessity of establishing such a mechanism — which is a technical issue that is necessary for Armenia to divert attention from a comprehensive political and legal solution to the conflict, maintain the status quo and continue to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, said the FM.
The Azerbaijani side has already stated that the incident investigation mechanism can be introduced only after the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories, according to Mammadyarov. “All incidents will come to an end after the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani territories,” he said.
Mammadyarov went on to add that the legal basis for settling the conflict has long been defined on the basis of the UN Security Council resolutions which demand the full and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian forces from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani FM urged the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, in accordance with their mandate, to take effective measures and demand the Armenian side to fulfill its obligations.
