Ilham Alİyev: Armenİa, whİch destroyed sacred mosques, cannot be a frİend of Muslİm countrİes
Armenia has been holding under occupation 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, includingNagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts for more than 20 years, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
The president made the remarks at the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC) on the issue of Jerusalem in Istanbul on Dec. 13, APA reported.
President Aliyev expressed gratitude to the OIC member states and Muslim communities around the world for their fair support to Azerbaijan on resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“Nagorno-Karabakh is an ancient and historical land of Azerbaijan. As a result of Armenia's aggression, more than one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons,” said the president. “The occupied territories were entirely subjected to ethnic cleansing and were looted.”
President Aliyev noted that Armenia destroyed all cultural monuments, including mosques and Islamic monuments.
"Meanwhile, Armenia wants to establish friendly relations with various Muslim states. This is the biggest hypocrisy. The world's Muslims should know that Armenia, which destroyed sacred mosques, cannot be a friend of Muslim countries," he said.
The president recalled that in 1993 the UN Security Council adopted four resolutions demanding the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the Azerbaijani territory.
"However, Armenia refuses to implement them. The organization of Islamic cooperation and other international organizations adopted similar decisions and resolutions. Azerbaijan will never reconcile with the Armenian occupation, the conflict should be settled only within the internationally recognized borders and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," added President Aliyev.
